Taking care of a betta is a fairly simple manner just give it frequent water changes with aged treated water and feed him enough but not too much. Overfeeding fouls the water and can lead to diseases. I treat my water with Prime and age it at least 24 hours. Prime is the best water treatment I have found. I feed mine twice a day. A couple of pellets in the morning and live food or pellets at night. Any of the betta pellets will do and live or frozen foods are a good addition to its diet. Mosquito larva are their favorite food. The size of the container control how often the water needs changing. The larger the container the less often it needs changing. If you are going to be out of town for a week or less the betta will do fine without food and since he is not eating he will not need his water changed. If you are going to be gone longer than that have someone feed him about every four days. Never breed a pair unless you have food for the fry. The fry require special food.
